The Smart Meter installation project by the central government is set to begin in Gujarat, including the specific region of Saurashtra, starting from December onwards, carried out by PGVCL and the process is ongoing. it will be implemented on all DISCOM company in a timely manner. The target of installing 1.6 crore smart prepaid meters has been set to be achieved within the next 2 years. 2. Which type of Consumer & Category are Included for Smart Meter ? In the starting stage of this project it is said that the smart meters will be installed initially in government offices for pilot project , then it will be followed by industrial connections and then at last residential connections. 3. Who Is Excluded from Smart Meter Installation ? Currently the Agricultural category is excluded from this project. 4. What is the Project Estimated Cost ? It is estimated that the expenditure of Rs. 3550 crores will be incurred in Saurashtra for installing smart meters for approximately more than 50 lakh connections. 5. What is the installation charges ? Charges of the meter is estimated between 7000 to 10000. But as per the the information available consumer will not have to pay any charges for the installation of the Smart Meter. 6. How to recharge Smart Meter ? There will be two option for consumer to recharge. Recharging the smart meter is similar / same as recharging mobile SIM card. Lot’s of wallet option will be available as similar to Mobile Sim card. Consumer can visit the nearest PGVCL office to recharge, nearest authorized shopkeeper. 9. How the balance will get deducted ? The balance will get deducted as per your consumption of the electricity equipment. Once the balance reach to the end the power will get cut-off automatically. But as per the rumor the power will not get cut-off immediately but the consumer will have 24 hrs to make a recharge to refill the balance , after refilling the balance the used electricity without balance until it get recharged within 24hrs will be deducted from the new balance. 10. How Smart Meter Will Look Like ? The Smart Prepaid Meter will be almost similar to a regular digital meter but as you know it is smart meter so it will have more capacity like live communication to devices and other possible things to maintain a ease of convenience. It will be connected to the server and will communicate with PGVCL Server in order to send a detail consumption report. 11.
